Floating house: build it yourself or buy a ready-made one?

Many people think that having built a house on a pontoon, they have a floating dacha. And then it turns out that such a structure never becomes “floating”. Why? How can you simply build a floating dacha so that you can swim on it with pleasure?
Standard design of a floating cottage on a pontoon
First, let's look at what a regular floating house looks like. The basis of such a structure is a pontoon, consisting of floats and a frame installed on it. Usually, floats for a floating house are made of polyethylene or aluminum. The frame is made of steel or wood. Then, a deck is laid on the frame and the house kit is installed.
Many craftsmen use containers, polycarbonate canopies, homemade huts, and construction cabins to build a floating cottage.
What are the dangers of a floating cottage built by yourself?

Stability

One of the main mistakes in the construction of any floating structure is incorrect calculation of load distribution. It is very important to correctly distribute the weight of the superstructure over the deck area so that your structure has uniform settlement around the entire perimeter. This will extend the service life of the pontoon and the residential superstructure, and also ensure the safety of passengers. from the corners and so that the water reaches the walls of the residential superstructure. Wet and slippery deck, violation of the integrity of the structure due to the constant action of water, warping of the pontoon frame - and these are just the obvious problems of a homemade floating house.
We must not forget that on the deck of the floats there will be not stationary objects at all, but people who are constantly moving on it. Unfortunately, due to improper load distribution, the first swim may become the last - your structure may simply capsize if too many passengers get on board, or if they do it simultaneously from one side.
Correctly calculating the load of a pontoon platform is a serious engineering task.

Height above water

The freeboard height is a parameter that is also often overlooked. A common mistake is to have the board height above the water too low, resulting in the deck flooding even in light waves or strong winds. In order for your floating house to withstand light waves and serious wind loads, the height of the pontoon frame must be calculated.

Lack of project

You can't build a floating house without a project. The project must include a calculation of the pontoon's carrying capacity, strength, stability, and other important parameters of the vessel's design. In the absence of a project, you will have to make changes to the design right during the work, which often leads to significant costs or even a complete abandonment of construction.

Price

This parameter is considered the main one, but a floating house is not a structure to save money on. Many people believe that it is much cheaper to buy barrels for a pontoon, weld the frame yourself and build a house with your own hands. At the same time, the vessel they receive turns out to be either completely unsafe, or the construction costs a lot and is seriously delayed due to the lack of the necessary skills of the owner. manufacturer - the most competent and rational solution, which allows not only to save time and money, but also guarantees a long service life and complete safety of the structure.
  • We can prepare a project according to your individual conditions: we will place a sauna or bathhouse in the superstructure, create a covered terrace or a sunny veranda.
